A Integrated care at unimed system
challenges and tendencies
Abstract
Many changes and transformations are currently in course in the 21st century. They bring a series of challenges such as the necessity to suit the regular healthcare proceedings to society's new needs as population ageing, violence and multimorbidity. In this article we will discuss how Unimed can adapt to this reality through the promotion of Integrated Care, focusing on the prevention of diseases, substituting the regular model which focus is on the diseases. In the first place we will contextualize the scenery in which Unimed acts, then we will present a brief history of the Integrated Care model and its innovations. We will also suggest how to implement its model on Unimed, highlighting its advantages and challenges. Finally, we are going to introduce some tendencies regarding the Integrated Care models, especially the ones related to the development of new technologies.
