Science outreach
guidelines for teaching practice
Abstract
This paper is the result of the recent implantation of a Research and Science Outreach Center (Núcleo de Pesquisa e Extensão – NUPEx) at Faculdade Unimed. The development of this Center required a collective and collaborative effort from NUPEx/Faculdade Unimed’s technical staff in order to systematize the guidelines and norms related to the activities of university extension in the actual context of college education in Brazil. The main objective of this work is to meditate about the role of Science Outreach on the education of undergraduate students, considering, specially, the ordinance No 1.350 from 12/17/2018 where is homologated the draft CNE/CES No 608/2018, from the Higher Education Chamber of the National Education Council, and is instituted the guidelines for the Policies for Science Outreach in Brazil. This important legal device for the field of Science Outreach synthetizes the work done on the last decade to conceptualize it inseparably from education and research and also integrates the different segments of higher education entities that are part of the Federal System of Education, including evaluative and regulative dimensions already valid. This work can be useful to managers and agents who are maintainers of Higher Education Institutions, deans, coordinators, professors and students interested in implementing Science Outreach activities on their IES. It also adds a critical reflection about the socio-historical práxis regarding university extension in the country.
